Cca půl roku - podle výběrového řízení

Pokud vyjíždíte jen na jeden semestr, stačí turistické vízum - eTa

Ano, learning agreement lze po příjezdu ještě měnit

When and how did course registration take place? Are there any restrictions? Possibilities of making changes?:
Student si vybere cca 7 předmětů ze seznamu, které si musí nechat schválit na MUNI. Podle rozvrhu a volných míst v jednotlivých kurzech mu UVIc zapíše 5 z nich. Kurzy lze pak po příjezdu do Kanady přidávat i rušit.

Ano

Používají se Units, přepočet: 1,5 Units = 6 kreditů

Describe the teaching methods (theory, practical and projects) and assessment of students:
Povinná docházka na hodiny (je hodně kontrolovaná), důraz je kladen na projekty, prezentace, diskuze v hodině, studium literatury. Většina předmětů má midterm a final exam

Quality of teaching in comparison with home school:
Rozhodně časově náročnější (literatura, projekty..), ale probíraná látka je jednodušší

How did you receive study materials?:
Záleží na předmětech, v některých byla potřeba zakoupit učebnici (což je docela drahé, možné vyřešit i jinak), někdy stačily materiály, které nahrál profesor do ISu (Coursespace)

Can you recommend an interesting course/subject/teacher?:
COM 220 Organiational Behaviour s Christianem Van Buskirkem - nejlepší profesor, kterého můžete mít

How well is the school library equipped?:
Zdála se výborná, ale nevyužívala jsem

Availability of computers, internet access, level of software needed, requirements on notebook:
V knihovně je dostatek počítačů, na celém kampusu je wifi (docela dobrá). Rozhodně ale doporučuju vlastní notebook, v některých předmětech je občas potřeba přinést notebook do hodin

Options from printing and copying:
V knihovně nebo v student union building - za nějákých 12 centů za stránku

Does the foreign school/student organisation arrange special events for exchange students?:
yes

Úvodní víkendové orientation days, akce s Buddy programem (bbq na pláži nebo Halloween event), End-year Banquet

Je možnost zapsat si předměty, které mají kanadští studenti jako povinné, Buddy program, prezentace domácí univerzity kanadským studentům

Samostatný vybavený pokoj vč. energií

Describe the equipment. Tips for future students – what should they bring with them?:
Ve Victorii lze sehnat vybavené pokoje k podnájmu (off campus housing)

How and how far ahead should accommodation be organised?:
Já jsem řešila ubytování cca s 2 měsíčním předstihem, spousta lidí ale hledalo ubytování až na místě (někdy landlord vyžaduje osobní prohlídku bytu)

What are the catering options?:
Velký výběr je na kampuse, případně samozřejmě vaření doma

What are the rough costs of groceries (compare with Czech prices):
Skoro vše je ve srovnání s ČR dražší, Victorie patří k jednomu z dražších měst v Kanadě. Hlavně sýry, ovoce, zelenina, alkohol je několikanásobně drahé

Rough prices for transportation:
letenka do Vanocouveru cca 25K (zpáteční) + trajekt z Vancoveru do Victorie 17 CAD

Tips for purchasing cheap tickets and other recommendations:
Záleží na preferencích, hodně lidí kupuje jednosměrnou letenku a zpáteční až po oznámení finals (listopad). Osobně bych se vyhnula přestupu v USA. Taky jsem slyšela, že je lepší dostat se až do Victorie letecky.

What are the local transport options (public transport, cycling, on foot, rough prices):
Pokud seženete ubytování v blízkosti kampusu, doporučila bych kolo nebo chodit pěšky.
MHD je docela nespolehlivé, 15 minut není žádné zpoždění - ale rozhodně se vyplatí koupit si na celý semestr jízdenku (nahrává se na OneCard, stojí cca 220 CAD, v ceně je i vstup do staré posilovny na kampuse). Kampus je totiž od centra Victorie asi 20 minut jízdy městskou, a denní jízdné stojí 5 CAD.
Kolo se dá koupit na kampuse za symbolických 40 dolarů na celý semestr, ale je jich pouze omezený počet a jsou velice rychle vykoupené.

What kind of formalities have to be arranged before arrival, for example residence permit?:
Je třeba zřídit si OneCard, zaplatit povinné zdravotní pojištění, případně si koupit BusPass/ vstup do posiloven

What health insurance did you use? (rough price, advantages, disadvantages, is it necessary to arrange insurance at the university other than your home (Czech) insurance?):
Po příjezdu do Kanady je třeba zaplatit zdravotní pojištění, které zařizuje UVIc. Platí několik dní před začátkem semestru a několik dní po konci semestru

Did you have any experience with medical treatment abroad?:
Ne

Did you work during your studies?:
Ne, při pobytu na turistické vízum to nelze

What are the conditions for working for MU students?:
nutnost studijního víza, detaily nevím

Tips for free-time activities:
Vancouver Island je nádherný, zvláště pak Tofino (hiking, surfování...), výlety do Seattlu, Vancouveru, Banffu, všude možně prostě

První měsíc je trošku finančně náročnější - učebnice (které stojí i 100 CAD, ale vždy je možnost s někým sdílet e-book, do některých kurzů není učebnice ani potřeba), MHD, sporty, pojištění atd.
Cestování a volný čas je vyloženě individuální položka, může to být málo, ale i hodně
Čepované pivo v centru (bez pěny) je cca za 8 CAD, i dražší (vypočítejte sami)

krásný kampus, vstřícnost lidí, počet exchange studentů

Je to docela drahé, ale bez váhání bych vyjela znovu!!!
