Activities before my departure abroad
What was your approach in organising the placement?:
Nejdříve jsem napsala motivační dopis a životopis hostující instituci, která mě na základě poslaných dokumentů vybrala na stáž. Dále jsem podepsala Training Agreement s koordinátorkou na FSS, který jsem vložila do ISu.

How far ahead did acceptance have to be organised? (in weeks):
Je to individuální, záleží na které období se hlásíte. Přijetí na stáž je potřeba vyřizovat cca 4 měsíce dopředu.

ESTA - 3 měsíční turistické vízum

Ne

What is necessary to arrange immediately on arrival? What requirements and at which offices?:
Není potřeba nic zvláštního vyřizovat.

Describe your work/activity in the foreign organisation. Describe what specifically you did, whether the work corresponded to the agreed conditions and your field of study, and whether your work was independent and responsible, approximate working hours.:
Pracovní doba 32 hodin/týdně + celovečerní akce, 4 pracovní dny a 1 den volna + víkendy
Náplň práce: zpracování a vytváření PR materiálů, překlad ANJ do ČJ a naopak, event management, front office desk, web content, správa sociálních sítí, příprava kulturních akcí, kontakt s umělci atd.
Práce odpovídala domluveným podmínkám.

Did the organisation or local student organisations arrange any special events for foreign students on placements?:

Přednáška a návštěva mezinárodních organizací (OSN, Generální konzulát, Stálá mise ČR při OSN atd.)

Practical questions on your placement
Where did you live?:
V bytě, měla jsem pro sebe jeden pokoj, spolubydlící byli většinou zahraniční stážisté či místní obyvatelé New Yorku

Cost of accommodation - monthly:
1200 USD

Additional comments to the price of accommodation (as to what the price includes):
Ubytování v NY je velmi drahé, 1200 je průměrná měsíční cena za ubytování, záleží i na lokalitě, dá se samozřejmě najít i levnější, ale obvykle bývá dražší.

Who arranged your accommodation and how far ahead:
Ubytování jsem si zajišťovala sama. V New Yorku je normální hledat ubytování 2 týdny před příjezdem a to přes FB skupinu Gypsy Housing.

Equipment, internet connection, what to bring:
Záleží na tom, kde budete ubytování. Já měla na bytě vše, co jsem potřebovala - vybavená kuchyň, připojení k internetu, televize, sprcha s mýdlem.

What are the rough costs of groceries (compare with Czech prices):
Ceny potravin jsou o hodně dražší než v ČR. Za obyčejný nákup zaplatíte zhruba 30 - 40 dolarů. Dá se koupit speciální obědové menu, vyjde vás cca na 13-15 dolarů.

Tips for purchasing cheap tickets and other recommendations:
Nemám žádné doporučení.

What are the local transport options (public transport, cycling, on foot, rough prices):
Doporučuji zakoupit měsíční Metrocard, vyjde na 120 dolarů a můžete jezdit všude po New Yorku neomezeně, metrem i busem. Je zde i dobré využití citybikes.

How did you use health insurance? What type?:
Mám roční celosvětové pojištění od Kooperativy.

Ne

Tips for recreation:
New York je opravdu velkoměsto, je tu pořád, co dělat. Když prší, doporučuji návštěvu muzeí, a to ve dny či hodiny, kdy mají vstupné zdarma či snížené. Výlety do parků, návštěva místních jazzových barů, projížďka lodí na Staten Island, prozkoumat různé čtvrtě v NY.

New York je jedno z nejdražších měst na světě, je zde drahé naprosto všechno.

Platila jsem kartou a měla jsem u sebe americké dolary v hotovosti

Other advantages from the host organisation?:
Spolupracovníci z Českého centra byli všichni velmi nápomocní, takže kdyby se něco stalo, nebyl by problém s nějakým vyřízením. Zároveň České centrum sídlí v budově s Generálním konzulátem České republiky.

Ano. Na nákup surovin, metrocard, případně taxi z letiště

Zkušenost s jinou oblastí mezinárodní diplomacie. Získání nových kontaktů.

Není potřeba si vzít nic speciálního. Doporučuji americký adaptér na nabíjení mobilu či počítače. Všechno se dá případně koupit na místě
