Describe the teaching methods (theory, practical and projects) and assessment of students:
Na začátku semestru se všichni studenti podrobí kurzu "Přežití v arktických oblastech". První půlka studia (dark season) probíhá formou přednášek a cvičení v zázemí UNIS. Když se vrátí světlo, výuka se přesouvá do terénu. Poslední měsíc a půl mají studenti na práci na individuálních semestrálních projektech, které kombinují terénní výzkum a studium literatury.

How did you receive study materials?:
Všechny studijní materiály byly dostupné online (+v knihovně v tištěné podobě)

AG-209 Tectonic and sedimentary history of Svalbard
AG-222 Integrated geological methods: From outcrop to geomodel

Oba kurzy měli velice příjemnou atmosféru. Bohužel jsem neměla příležitost vyjet do terénu - corona...

How well is the school library equipped?:
Jedná se o nejsevernější knihovnu na světě... Najdete tam jen knihy a časopisy věnující se jednomu z oborů vyučovaných na UNIS. Nicméně je to útulné místo s pohovkami a houpací sítí, kde se každý dokáže ponořit do studijní nálady :)

Availability of computers, internet access, level of software needed, requirements on notebook:
Určitě si s sebou vezměte vlastní laptop, bude se hodit při sepisování semestrálních projektů a studiu na zkoušky (...jestliže máte vážný důvod si ho nevzít, dá se to zvládnout i bez něj...). Počítače se sice v budově UNIS nacházejí, ale v omezeném počtu. Internet (Eduroam) je dostupný v celé budově UNIS a ve studentské ubytovně.

Options from printing and copying:
Dostanete 200 kopií na semestr, další lze přikoupit. Za celou dobu nebylo potřeba tisknout. Materiály nám tiskli vyučující.

Jelikož tu nejsou žádní stálí studenti (jen Phd.), tak všichni začínají hledat přátele společně. Špicberky přitahují velmi přátelské a aktivní lidi z různých koutů světa, se kterými se určitě nebudete nudit ;)

výpis z trestního rejstříku v angličtině (aby vám půjčili zbraň na ochranu před ledními medvědy)

co nejdřív po přijetí (je tu jen určitý počet míst a rychle se zaplňují)

ve škole je kantýna, ale drahá
když si navaříte doma, můžete si to ve škole ohřát v mikrovlnce

třikrát až pětkrát vyšší

5000 až 7000 za jednu cestu (i s lyžema)

ČHS Trio, zahrnuje i rizikové sporty a arktické oblasti
Koupila jsem si ho na celý rok a bylo levnější než konkurence - něco málo přes 2000, myslím)
