Activities before my departure abroad
What was your approach in organising the placement?:
Kontaktování příslušné instituce. Dále jsem vše řešila s přijímající institucí. Na fakultě jsem se informovala o možnostech zahraničních programů CZS, který by mi mohl zajistit finanční podporu.

What documents are required for acceptance on a placement at this organisation?:
Úvodem životopis, motivační dopis. Po přijetí si velvyslanectví vyžádalo další dokumenty potřebné ke zpracování žádosti do ústředí MZV (kopie pasu, výpis z trestního rejstříku apod.).

How far ahead did acceptance have to be organised? (in weeks):
Čím dříve, tím lépe. Zpracování a schválení žádosti v ústředí MZV trvá. Dále je také potřeba brát ohled na žádost o vízum. Vzhledem k povaze instituce je podávána žádost o speciální - diplomatické vízum, jehož vydání není tak zdlouhavé jako při klasické žádosti o jiné typy víz, přesto bych doporučila minimálně 12 týdnů předem.

Veškeré informace jsem obdržela ze strany velvyslanectví, je k dispozici i na vládních stránkách USGov.

Fee for the visa:
Vzhledem k typu víza nebyly za žádost účtovány žádné poplatky.

Ne.

What is necessary to arrange immediately on arrival? What requirements and at which offices?:
Pravděpodobně nic.

Zpracování výzkumných a analytických podkladů k tématům spadajícím pod zastupitelský úřad, monitoring akcí organizovaných washingtonskými think-tanky, reprezentace velvyslanectví na událostech, pomoc při přípravě návštěv delegací a akcí velvyslanectví.

Where did you live?:
Bydlení jsem si zajišťovala sama, instituce bohužel s tímto úkonem nepomáhá. Bydlela jsem se spolubydlícími nedaleko od velvyslanectví.

Who arranged your accommodation and how far ahead:
Ubytování jsem si zajistila sama asi měsíc před příjezdem.

Equipment, internet connection, what to bring:
Liší se ubytování od ubytování. V mém ubytování bylo vše zajištěné a plně vybavené.

What are the rough costs of groceries (compare with Czech prices):
Záleží na typu potravin, obecně cena 2-3x dražší v porovnání s ČR.

Transport to location of placement:
Záměrně jsem si vybrala ubytování blízko velvyslanectví, abych mohla chodit pěšky. V jiném případě bych využívala metro (zde je nutné počítat s poměrně nemalými náklady na cestování).

metro cca $5/den

Tips for purchasing cheap tickets and other recommendations:
V tomto bohužel žádné tipy nemám. Sama jsem nekupovala letenku s příliš velkým předstihem. Obecně není z mé zkušenosti nutné pro zakoupení letenky nutné čekat na udělení víza. Obzvláště ne v tomto případě, kdy je žádáno o diplomatické vízum.

What are the local transport options (public transport, cycling, on foot, rough prices):
Nejčastěji asi metro, které je v místě na velmi dobré úrovni. Není ovšem nejlevnější, cena se liší v závislosti na čase, kdy člověk cestuje. Průměrně bych řekla např. $2.50-3 za jednosměrnou jízdu.

How did you use health insurance? What type?:
Sjednávala jsem si klasické cestovní zdravotní pojištění u pojišťovny Slavia.

Did you have other insurance? Which?:
Ne

Experience with insured events:
Ne

Tips for recreation:
Záleží dle preferencí jednotlivce. V místě bydliště jsem měla blízko hodně restaurací, fitness centrum, bydlela jsem blízko do centra města, tedy nebyl problém i v odpoledních hodinách jet objevovat krásy Washingtonu DC.

Osobně mám zřízený americký účet, s dnešními možnostmi, které české banky poskytují, není úplně potřeba. Doporučuji například Revolut.

Ano, platila jsem si pojištění.

Ne.

Is it necessary to assume a larger amount at the start of the placement? If yes, what and for what purpose?:
Vyloženě ne. Jen je potřeba počítat celkově s vyššími náklady.
